The Lunch Tray
The Lunch Tray
Remember those plastic school lunch trays with the little compartments? The ones that somehow made a peanut butter sandwich, a handful of grapes, and three suspiciously beige things feel like a complete and balanced meal?
The Lunch Tray is my grown-up, wooden version of that classic. Five sections, one solid piece of wood, and absolutely no need to pretend that everything on your plate belongs together.
Use it for kids’ meals or snacks. Use it as a personal charcuterie board when you don't feel like sharing. Use it for fruit and cheese, crackers and dips, a collection of little leftovers, or have yourself a girl dinner. Five compartments means five opportunities to convince yourself you planned this.
I’ve been using my own Lunch Tray for about two years, and my toddler niece has been putting one through its paces nearly every week for the same amount of time. It has held up remarkably well. No noticeable wear, no staining, and plenty of meals, thanks to the exceptionally durable Osmo TopOil finish.
Made from solid walnut, maple, or cherry, each tray has its own grain, color, and character. It’s a small departure from the sea of plastic trays and containers we’ve accumulated over the years, and a nice way to bring something warm, durable, and reusable to the table instead.
Basically, it’s the lunch tray you remember from childhood, if your childhood lunch tray had grown up, gotten a little fancy, and developed much better taste.
